What is it

Free breakfast and a free midday meal for children in Tamil Nadu government schools, so no child studies hungry.

Am I eligible

For children studying in eligible Tamil Nadu government and government-aided schools. The Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme covers children in classes 1 to 5 in government schools, and the long-running Nutritious Meal Programme provides the midday meal. Ask the school which supports apply to your child's class.

What you get

A free, hot breakfast on every school working day for children in classes 1–5 in government schools, plus a free cooked midday meal. Government schools also provide further support through the year — check with the school for what your child's class receives.

Documents needed

Tick off what you have. Use “Download checklist” to print a clean list to carry.

How to apply

1. These meals are given automatically to children enrolled in eligible government schools — there is usually no separate form.
2. Speak to the class teacher or headmaster to confirm your child is included.
3. Provide the child's Aadhaar and admission details if the school asks.
4. Raise any missing benefit with the headmaster or the local education office.
