What is it

Tamil Nadu's own relief fund that gives one-time medical assistance for costly treatment, decided on need rather than a fixed income line.

Am I eligible

For Tamil Nadu residents facing a heavy medical bill (serious illness, accident or emergency) they cannot meet on their own. Assistance is need-based and discretionary — there is no fixed poverty-line cutoff — but you must show genuine hardship. Approval and the amount are decided case-by-case by the CM's Office.

What you get

A one-time grant towards major treatment cost, reported to range from about ₹10,000 up to ₹5 lakh depending on the case. The amount is decided case-by-case; it is usually paid towards the hospital bill.

How to apply

1. Note: there is no reliable public online form for medical aid — the application is made through your District Collector's office, so apply in person there.
2. Get the treatment cost estimate on the hospital's letterhead, signed by the doctor, and gather your Aadhaar, ration/family card and income proof.
3. Submit a written application for medical assistance from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund at the District Collectorate (the government hospital's medical social worker can guide you).
4. A recommendation note from your local MLA strengthens the application; the Collector reviews it and the CM's Office approves. Keep copies and any reference number for follow-up.
